to congratulate Chief Pasto
retires in 10 days after 25 years of
faithful service. Um I know when I was
the fire chief, we chief side by side as
police and fire and uh worked a lot
together. We coordinated a lot of things
together. We were always on the same
page. And uh I've known Rich since we
were kids playing hockey. Used to elbow
me illegally in the corner all the time,
which is why I denied most of his
budgetary items in this position.
But in all serious seriousness, uh
Chief, you've done a wonderful job uh
from two different roles as fire chief
manager. I work with you and uh
sharp elbows
the street you hide you know hide
I definitely want to thank you for your
service to the city been an outstanding
chief private leadership across this
department uh it's bittersweet having
this be your last meeting very excited
the next chapter in your life very sad
to see outstanding representative this
city
do
chief we're very proud
Uh actually have an update real quick.
Um you know from time to time we talk
about uh uh traffic safety. You know
one of the things that I bring to bring
a team as you know speed radar signs um
you know it's a little little
took a little while to get get some
funding, but I want to thank CFO Al
Stanley. Um, we set some money aside
starting last year and
take a little while together.
So,
It's nice because
and fire

I saw that.
I just want to give a couple quick
updates. Uh we've been working in
Brigantine on uh dredging on the south
end of the island. That dredging project
is started. Uh the back phase uh around
Sunflower Island that's managed by the
DOT. It's actually not the city of
Brigantine. It's managed by the DOT. Uh
we're working with Senator Palestina's
office. The DOT is out there. They've
already begun dudging. There's been a
couple questions that have been from the
community about how they're dredging,
what they're doing. Uh we're reaching
out and forwarding those questions to
the DOT. We'll have that information
back out to the community members.
Another big issue that's kind of been
hitting people hard is uh South Jersey
gas bills. I've had a number of people
reach out to me very concerned that the
delivery charges for South Jersey gas
bills are three times the actual cost of
gas. uh working with Senator Palestina
right now to talk with South Jersey Gas
to find out what's going on with
delivery charges. And I know this isn't
just a team issue, it's a statewide
issue. I know Governor Sh
uh passed an executive order to freeze
all utility rates at their current
rates. So whether it's gas or electric
until uh I guess she and state officials
find out what's going on with
affordability. So I think you know
that's a positive step in the first
direction but um a lot of people really
appreciate that you know what the city
to the senator policy is looking is to
see what's going on once we have more
information on that share that with the
public uh we'll also be reaching out to
the governor to see what efforts we can
do to try to coordinate our um I guess
what we're doing between the city county
state to try to see if we could answer I
would tell you probably One of the big
things is we need to make sure at least
when it comes to electricity um that
we're generating that power here in New
Jersey. Uh big issue is the previous
governor shut down I think six uh energy
plants in New Jersey and we're a lot of
energy out of state drove up costs. I
know that's something that the state
legislature is looking for and what I'm
hearing from a lot of our state
officials is looking into SMRs which is
small modular reactors. I've done a lot
of research into this. It seems that um
your energy has really changed.
Speaking with researchers at um
some of the universities, some of our
state universities, they've said that
nuclear is probably one of the energy
sources. So, I think that's something
that we're going to see more information
on. So I think it's good to see that
people on both sides of the aisle are
agreeing alternative source and
hopefully kind of put those efforts
forward in order to try to make this
more.
Yeah, I think when people think
like Chernobyl and Three Mile Island,
but I do think that that'll be probably
one of the biggest hurdles is the
misinformation on the old technology.
The state's going to have to do a good
job on messaging and educating public um
to make sure they understand that it's a
lot safer than it used to be. Uh my
understanding though, even if the state
expedites it, you're looking at three to
five years before construction begins on
any
but at least uh we have the direction.
It seems like there's a lot of support
to try to so
our efforts together try to make sure
that we get down

could comment on the New Jersey law
requiring ebike riders to be licensed
and insured and will not also apply to
um, outofstate visitors.

U it's it's a new law. There's already
been some some to it
about it.

Right now it's saying it falls under
thinking like a b you're going to need
to have insured registered
safety equipment
That's a good thing.
