Do you have everybody here? >> Yes. >> All right. The Brigantine Aquatic Center is blessed to host the Green Head Special Olympics swim team. The team is made up of Jordan Spencer, Stefan, Stanley, Sebastian, Ethan, Justin, and Francis. They practice two times uh in Brigantine year-round to get ready for competition season. The season consists of three meets. If you finish one, two, or three in the first meet, you move on to the second. If you finish one, two, or three in the second meet, you qualify for the New Jersey Special Olympics held at TCNJ for over 3,000 athletes in 17 sports. Uh the Green Head Special Olympics team advanced all members, all eight members to the summer games taking home 20 medals including six gold medals. They uh they were some of the fastest in the entire state. They're so proud to have that we are so proud to have them represent our island on the state level. And you just may see some of them compete in the national level in the next few years. >> [snorts] >> Um from June 5th to June 8th, these athletes represented Brigantine at New Jersey Special Olympics games. And uh their dedication and hard work that they put in each week are reflected in these outstanding results. This evening we're acknowledging these great eight Brigantine athletes for their accomplishments and we're so proud to have you represent us on the state level. All right. Now All right. MY NAME is Stanley and I'm good at swimming. >> [laughter] >> And And and and I love swimming because swimming is my talent. And and and I used to do swimming in in Special Olympics in the summer time. And uh uh and I used to practice the uh swim me in the winter time. >> It's cold when you leave in the winter time. That was cool, wasn't it? >> And I love swimming because swimming is a fun thing to do. >> That's right. >> That's all. >> [applause] >> Hey, it's um me, Francis. Uh I like to thank my family [snorts] for supporting me even doing this. It it was really cool. And I love swimming cuz the water is so fun to like touch. I don't say that as a contact I I don't know. I was fine with that. >> Hello, my name is Stefan. And I love swimming. My favorite stroke to swim is freestyle and I love the back stroke because I move my hands so strong. >> Your hands are so strong. >> Yes. >> Uh I had a lot of fun. That's the most important part and I I would like to thank my coaches, my teams, and all the parents that were there. >> Well, these guys have been with me a really time. Our our special needs program is actually named after Stanley, Stanley's Special Friends. And last 2 weeks ago we had 27 emails. So, this last year we've taught probably 120 special needs children that hopefully are a little bit safer around the water. And that's what it's about. And they're all having fun. Yep. And I want to thank thank council, Mayor and council, and and Karen Dew for having us, and thank you. >> My name is Ethan Rodriguez. And I love swimming because it helps me with exercising. My favorite swim style is freestyle because it keeps with my arms and legs exercises. She is uh the certificate again of recognition was awarded to her by the general code. Again, she's in the municipal clerks honor roll for 2026. Thank you, Christine. It was just a wonderful sight and uh such a great place on our island. So many of our kids swam there, including my own. And uh just a wonderful Robin does a wonderful job there. As did uh her husband Chuck, who we don't have anymore, but uh wonderful man. So So we were Other than that, uh everybody enjoy the weather. Uh it's some good weather following and safety and uh enjoy the sunshine and good health to all. What a great job um everyone has done with with your job. And the CEO and staff, so it's ready. I think that What is the soft opening? It's Thursday, right? That's tomorrow. Tomorrow, I believe it Then I guess it kicks in the high gear on the weekend, so It's in beautiful condition. The greens are fast. That's all I have. Um I had the honor of attending the Elks Flag uh ceremonial Sunday morning, which is an amazing event. Um I So, the Elks always does an incredible job. So, I'm honored to be I also had a great time at the antique car show today at the community center. A lot of cool cars down there. It was a nice crowd. Thank you to the DJ. I also want to congratulate our eighth graders that graduated last night. Um That's always a good ceremony. A lot of lot of scholarships handed out. Um for kids all over. So, these kids are going to do great. Ryan Twarog memorial is July 11th at St. Thomas Church. >> [sighs] >> I believe uh Martin Matthew's car wash is at this weekend also. >> Yes, this Saturday. >> Saturday morning? >> At the Elks Club. Sounded like a good time. Uh the uh Cultural Arts Commission is putting together a uh chalk walk. Uh chalk walk in red, white, and blue, and that's July 1st at the seawall. It's for ages between 5 and 16. And uh they're looking for you to demonstrate your vision on our national symbols, the Statue of Liberty, the American flag, Liberty Bell, bald eagle, torches, fireworks, etc. We provide the Cultural Arts Commission provide the chalk and the wall, the seawall. uh promenade And you provide the creativity. So, that's on July 1st. uh On-site registration 9:30 a.m. up the seawall around 11th Street there from 10:00 a.m. to noon. So, um you can practice ahead of time and we'd love to see you all up there. uh Other than that, the uh the Economic Development Committee met last week. And uh we had a great meeting. You know, we wanted to do something special for uh the 250th anni- anniversary of the country and all. So, we came up with something I think is fabulous and I got to give uh Tiger uh some uh credit for this. I think you mentioned it. Yeah. >> [laughter] >> uh But, so at uh 11:30 on July 4th uh at 38th Street on the beach get your patriotic gear on, bring your flags, we're marching from up the up the beach from 38th Street up around the Scallops. Some people may want to go some more, but we hope they get it uh set the Guinness Book of World Records for the biggest patriotic crowd march on July 4th on the beach uh in Brigantine. That's That's on the 4th at 11:30 a.m. So, it's pretty exciting. Yeah. uh We're going to have a nice ceremony to start the parade. um uh band, trumpet players, national anthem, the whole lot. Anyway, uh we did meet Mike Rizzo, Tiger, and John Doring with the folks over the seawall. The county was down, said their representative was here. They said the project engineer was was there with them. And we discussed our wants and and questions about why certain things weren't finished. They, you know, gave us their excuses, but they said they would take it back and figure out what we were going to do about the whole thing. Questioned the blinking lights, and we were told that there was a short in the pole wherever there was an outlet placed. Water was leaking into the pole and shorting shorting the lights, and I therefore they were blinking on and off because of some kind of safety mechanism so that they don't stay on all the time, but they're now shut off completely. We're hoping to get those turned back on sooner than later. Is there anything else, John, about that? Covered it all. Yeah. And we're trying to get that last ramp extended down to the sand level. And uh and something done with the 13th Street ramp that's not there any longer. It all has to be added back in there. And then there was some problems with the poles. The the pipes didn't end in the right places, and where they had removed the railings, there were uh holes left in the decking that should have been filled in some way or covered over. And, you know, we showed them all, we took pictures, and uh hopefully there'll be something done about it very shortly. >> Thank [clears throat] you. I'd first like to thank Jim Morgan and CER staff and Jim's daughter Kim for hosting a fabulous bus trip last week. They took I think there were like 40 of us from Brigantine in the area. We went on a week-long bus trip. 1,800 miles on a bus was long, but it was it was fantastic. It was We had lady from Baskovs, a representative with us every step of the way. And it was planned out beautifully. We went to Shanksville, Pennsylvania, saw where the planes came down, which was surreal to see that. We did the football Hall of Fame, the uh Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We went all the way up to Mackinac Island up by the upper peninsula of Michigan, which is a an island that has no motor vehicles other than one ambulance and three fire trucks. Police department responds on bicycles and horses. But it it's just it was neat. So, I I just want to thank them for one of their great trips. >> [snorts] >> I'd also like to congratulate the class of 2026, the graduating class from Brigantine Community School. Neil and I were there last night. It was different because um both Glenn Robbins, the superintendent, and Mayor Vince Sera wore two different hats last night. They were both in their official roles and they were in their dad roles as well. So, it was neat to see that. So, congratulation to all of them and just I hope everybody has a wonderful happy sum- Oh, Paul, you too. You were you were official as giving an award to your son. Congratulations to him as well.
