>> My name is Mishian Johnson for the
director. Um I just have a couple
questions and hopefully we can get just
straight answers. Um I just wanted to
know the city council um what are the
intentions for the next minute field?
Like are y'all planning on moving the
jokers off of for?
>> No.
>> So what are the plans for the vac?
>> So there was a survey that went out.
>> Yeah, I did it.
>> Okay. So those items there, that's what
we're planning on doing with um next
man.
>> So is there a committee for that survey?
make sure those things are getting
what the um
>> there's no there's no committee for for
that. This is a grant application and
the survey was uh part of the grant
application process. So the goal is to
get the you know get the grant awarded
but before you get the grant awarded you
have to kind of do a a um cost estimate.
So they've gone out there gave them a
myriad of things that we wanted to do.
That's what you see on the survey. Our
goal is to pick out
>> based on the survey what's the top items
and get those things done.
This grant is going to cover everything
that we want to do. Everything on that
list is $3 million like 1 1.4 1.5 1.6
somewhere in that neighborhood. But you
can't do everything with that with that
grant. So what we have to do is pick out
what the priorities are based on
responses from the surveys and those
target.

question um for the time frame. So what
is the time frame for that for us to for
it to be changed?
>> But once once they tell us you know that
we have grant then we will follow with
getting engineer the engineering and you
know it's one step at a time. It's just
any like any construction project
>> and once it's completed will the jokers
still have access to that from that?
>> That's why we're going.

just want to make sure that we're not
came to the horse. You get it from the

is restricted
cuz you keep saying green acres. I don't
understand what green acres because no
signs that say green acres. So it's
restricted because of green acres.

it's restricting its development the
same way that other property locations
would be to keep open space.

>> Okay. Um, my first question is who is
currently the I'm sorry.
>> Who is the current owner of the Joker
house at 618 Fwood Avenue here in
Pleasantville?
>> City of Pleasantville.
>> The city of Pleasantville. And
>> the house
the city of Pleasville.
>> Okay. And that's because the contract
the I don't know the agreement wasn't
fully done or signed or was no longer
there.
>> So in 2023
there was an ordinance passed to
donate essentially give the property
maybe $1
>> to the jokers which they had formerly
been operating under a license to use.
which is permission to use it
>> after they deeded the deed the location
to the city. At some point in time, the
agreement, the purchase agreement was
sent out through our business
administrator at the time and directly
to the president of the Joe Cruz.
I left at the end of 2023. It was never
executed during my term. I recently
inquired about it and we have not been
able to locate an executed agreement and
there's been no other document
indicative of one ever being executed.
>> Okay. Because we do have the dollar
cashier's check deposited into the city
account. So I was just a little
confused.
>> So then you should have a copy of the
fully executed agreement after which
then there would have to be a deed
prepared. None of that can take place.
And you know, I mean, I I I was gone for
a year, right? But there it doesn't
exist anywhere or they would have
certainly um gone ahead and procured the
the deed and filed it with the the
county clerk now. People make mistakes
and errors happen all the time, but if
there were an executed agreement, then
you would have a copy of it as well or
someone you're with the Joker.
>> Okay. I remember your face. Um, so I
think that I don't know what happened,
but um I think that that's something
that perhaps you need to speak with your
your leadership about.
>> Okay. Um, next question. Um, Councilman
Carmona, can you tell me why you posted
on your Facebook page uh a picture of
our buses being told?
>> The picture was posted by accident. I
was sending it to the work on Facebook.
>> All right. Um, back to the All right. So
once I talked to our administration
about the
>> if you find an ex and there's it's never
too late by the way. Okay.
>> Okay. But but what happens is there were
terms and conditions set forth in that
agreement
>> and I don't have that agreement with me
today. Um, there are terms and
conditions set forth as it relates to
improvements, building, rehabilit, you
know, things like that. There are on
timelines that have to be met. So, I'm
sure that it can be adjusted if
necessary if that's still the will of
council. You know, they did pass the
ordinance. They didn't move to rescend
the or to repeal the ordinance. So, we
can perfect the sale if you know if if
both sides and particularly the Joker's
organization still wants to do that.

I think that we should just sit there
and talk and just go over every line
item.

date and time.

My question is about this resolution
17 about um I was here a couple months
ago. I addressed about the holes in the
field and you told me about the grants
and then I got a call later on and then
um like you like splitting it up between
needs and
there was money that was put in for that
basketball court at Max that was like a
waste. Wouldn't you think that for the
last two decades our kids been bringing
home championships? We got five teams.
They've been bringing championships home
and I was feel as though that um the
Joker field should be first priority
like you know they need something you
know something decent. we the only
cities like our field looks like that
and then to say that um you know
Crescent Avenue like Leeds Avenue like
what what what's you know what do they
need over there like I'm not saying
don't give them anything but what do you
think the jokerfield would be first
priority being that like we're one of
the biggest organizations
>> that's my question
the initial grants to fix like
basketball courts or some of the other
things that grant had to go to multiple
parts you couldn't use it just for the
Joker's Field. It was one of those
things where we had to spread that
around between parks. Um, this grant
we're talking about now is a separate
grant. It's a total different grant. And
that grant is earmark to try and get you
guys, you know, the type of field that
you want. But, you know, there's there's
been some uh discussion as to whether
you want a turf field or whether you
want just, you know, grass field, but
just to improve grass field. You know,
that's what the survey was about. That's
what the survey was all about. their
basketball has been that court that was
improved has been nothing but trouble
over there. They set trash cans on fire.
They have multiple people I've talked to
President um Thomas. I called several
people on um people that's not even from
Pleas.

was a teacher in place district for more
than three decades. So, I know a little
bit about the Joker's program and and
how it feeds into the high school
because that's where I was based. I I
was concerned because I I saw things on
Facebook and um it made it look like not
what I'm hearing right

though. Most of my questions have
already been answered. This uh
resolution 17,

why isn't that money needed?
I mean
it's a decrease in cost that we have to
pay.
>> So the bid was smaller than the
>> estimate of what the the cost was going
to be if it came in less than okay
that's good news.

President, mayor. Yeah. So,
I appreciate you guys putting on record
that our field is not in jeopardy. Um,
you know, part because we have a
lifetime agreement with you guys from
the last land. We all have our own
opinion of what happened to that land
and where it went and why it went. Um,
which is something I'm eventually going
to look into. To answer your question, I
am the president. Um, we were told that
once you get the dollar in, they were
going to have a meeting and call us all
in and finalize everything. That never
happened.
>> When did you put the dollar?
>> February 2020.
>> Oh, February 2024. The dollar was
>> Did you deposit it to the person?
>> Yeah, I came into city hall, gave it in.
I have a copy of it. Everybody here has
a copy of it. It's February 2024. It was
given and I was told, "Okay, you're
fine. The dollar's in. We'll reach out
to you guys and let you know what the
next step is, which is fine. Water under
the bridge. I'm just asking, can we sit
down, come to the table, go back to the
drawing board, start from scratch
because we were given a house that
number one was never a house. It was
supposed to be a house. It was the house
off right. It was supposed to be
demolished. It was donated to us. It was
just a house sat on some bricks. Um, it
sat for four years. It was it was in
deplorable condition when it was given
to us. So, it's no way unless we have
hundreds and hundreds of thousands of
dollars that we're going to be able to
fix it. in a year, maybe two years,
we're getting it done. But the problem
is you still have to run a program with
no funding, zero funding. We're 100% uh
fundraised program. So you want us to do
what we got to do to run a program in
the field and the house. It's impossible
to do them in this time manner. Y'all
want us to do it. So I'm just asking if
we went to the drawing board and start
from scratch.

>> Absolutely.
>> Okay. You just want the terms of the
repairs and the conditions to be
upgraded or updated as he says. Yes.
>> Okay. So, this is what will happen. I
will speak with council committee. All

says and what those dates and timelines
are.

>> Right. And then they can determine
whether or not they want to move forward
with it based on the changes that you're
making. And then I have to determine
whether or not
>> a new ordinance has to be um enacted.
And if that if they're if they're in the
affirmative, then you would receive
something. Okay.
>> Okay. It's not going to be necessarily a
group of people sitting in the room
going through line by line. Okay. So,
it's really just updating.

um and as far as Mr. Carmona,
>> we all know that was a mistake. one, but
two, I actually have an email I sent
with once and where he filed a false
report trying to get our $1,400 funding
taken away from us. I responded back to
that for your name was on it by
accident. They sent it to us. I
responded back and asked for a fair
hearing and proof of the false
allegations that you put in. That was
the initial thing. I never got any
response back. So, before my time is up,
I just want to challenge everybody to go
back to the drawing board. Let's put
these personal agendas to the side.
Let's do it for the kids in this
community and let's just work together.

High School.

former football players and cheerleaders
who have gone on to be ministers,
educators,
business people, right? um um

my point is
we have a problem with understanding
history and what the Pleasville Jokers
are all about. We have a problem with
that.
At no point in time
have not only this board, this council
and previous councils really understood
what we were all about. All we received
was criticism and condemnation.
>> Okay, I know for 27 years, 28 years,
right, I've been involved with the
Plexville Jokers and I know what we've
been through. I know what we've been
through. I can tell you the horror
stories,
but it's not about back then it was Dave
Carrington. Now it's Elise Sanchez.
Prior to me it could have been somebody
else. But the bottom line is right,
we're here for the kids of
Pleasantville.
We're here for them. We have needs
that only city council, right, can help
us can help and assist with, right, and
help us produce
positive young men and young women.

No other township in this county
would do or did what Councilman Carmunda
did 3 weeks ago.
>> No township, no city. You wouldn't hear
this about Atlantic City. You wouldn't
hear this about Hamilton, Brigantine,
Abseen, Lynwood, and the list goes on
and on. The problem is, Mr. Kimon, you
don't know the history. You don't know
the value of our children. Yes, our
children make mistakes.
We've made mistakes.
But if it wasn't for the help of elders,
teachers,
uh certain politicians, right? We
wouldn't have had anything.
And for what you did was classless. It
was tacky. And it was immature

understand with with with the the elders
right of the organization to understand
where this organization came from.

I'm going to just kind of piggy back off
just for a second right there where they
left. You also you got doctors, you got
teachers, you got administrators, right?
You name it, we got it. They've come
from the student because we're doing the
difference. At one point in time, right,
we had
a excellent relationship right with the
city administration. Excellent. They
were we wouldn't have had this problem.
Mr. uh uh Miss Cosby, I understand what
you're saying about the uh that it
wasn't executed. Well, if it wasn't
executed, the judges couldn't execute
something, a document for themselves
that has to come from the city.
therefore represent that is not you know
so where does the blame fall
>> okay so Mr. So Mr. Boy, I'm going to
have to say this to you. Um, in 2023,
before I left, because I drafted the
purchase agreement and the deed, and
after council passed the ordinance, I
forwarded myself to Miss Sanchez, the
president of the jokers that purchase
order agreement. I then I never heard
anything back. I followed up with Miss
Payton, the then business administrator,
who said she would follow up. then my
term was up. So when I left it was not
executed and nothing transpired because
it's a complicated document, right? It
was one where it could still be open to
some degree of negotiation when you read
through the timelines and things like
that. Okay? So that was never done
between the time at which the ordinance
was passed and when I left on December
31st.
So I I you know it can fall through the
cracks, but it works both ways. if it
falls through the cracks, right? You say
the buyer and the buyer, Miss Con,
right?
>> We're not going to chase down somebody.
So, this is August of 2023. I left
December. It wasn't executed and it was
and it was and it was placed in the lap
of the person who was
>> it was placed in the lap.
>> All it required was looking through it
and and executing it and providing us
with the cash.

that right there needed to be a threat
right out here in this community that
the joker feel that that field that I
mean the uh uh the joker lock that was
then leading to them and or right saying
the uh the uh uh uh the uh the the
building that sits there right saying
you know that needs to be is followed up
followed through got it signed off on
the drugs have already put in right
saying we we they're out there in the
community, they're getting support,
right?
>> They're getting monies donated, you
know, to the joker organization. They're
doing the work. One of the council
persons, right, you see, sees the work
every day. Every day, Mr. Come on. Am I
am I not lying? You see the work every
day. And the bottom line is Mr. M.

said, "Well, listen. If the three
minutes are up, right, and saying what
date can can we sit can jokers get down
and finally, right, is saying get this
signed over to them because they've
already baked it out.

going to now be negotiated in the
purchase in the terms and conditions of

always what was there,

everyone, my colleagues and mayor, and I
want to thank the community. But I just
want to make a little comment to the
issue that was being discussed
concerning the field
for the kids.
This gone weekend, I was in Philly and I
introduced myself. I'm coming from
Pleasantville where pleasant people
live.

I heard my colleague stating that he
posted the picture out of error
and I heard your concern.
I think I want to recommend that we find
time to come together and just discuss
so that we can reconnect
because I don't want us leaving with a
feeling like we are against our kids.
I have two grandkids that are trying to
come here to play football with the
jokers. But I think it's help us when
the council and you come together not
that we will do things that will be
illegal but at least to reconnect to
know that we have your back to do what
is right and that you will look up to us
that we can join you to support the kids
and I don't want the notion to leave
here that uh we don't like our own
grandkids and kids. So I'll be working
with my colleague Victor and at
appropriate time we'll contact you to
see where we can meet and sit down to
lower the temperature and come back
together and see how we can bring ideas
to help our children. Thank you very

out today tonight. As far as the jokers
are concerned, there's a few of you that
I talked to um one on one and we would
never do anything. We're very, very
proud of the Jokers. I always say that
football is not my sport, but I'm proud
of it. I'm proud of football. I'm proud
of all that they've done. And I do know
that we have a lot of good kids that
have come out of Pleasantville, Joker
and otherwise. We have, you know, we
there's something to be proud of. We
have a lot of kids to be proud of. We
would never do anything to hurt them.
And when I heard that someone said that
uh we were trying to take the Joker
feel,

>> I was thinking, well, where would they
play? And and and that's what the
response to me was. I don't know. That's
why we're so concerned about it. But I
mean, think about just try and visualize
that us taking away Max Manny, not
letting him play over there anymore. And
uh how would how would that even look?
We it's nothing we could even discuss.
So please, anybody that's thinking that
don't I mean I don't know what's going
to come of the meeting that we're going
to have, but I know it won't be that,
you know, and and I just I as a mayor, I
don't get a vote. That's true. But
that's nothing that I would fight to the
nail. Council wouldn't even allow. But
I'm just saying that's nothing that we
would ever consider doing.
And uh we're going to come to the table,
have a meeting of mind, and hopefully
just come up with something that we can
all just be amable about, not have to
question us or question you. Thank you,

first of all, I I look at the audience
and man, I'm totally in shock.
I was fortunate enough to play
for the Joker since 1978. And believe it
or not, our coach is sitting right
there.
>> Well, we won our first championship and
we're in the history books right here in
Pleasantville and my coach is there.
>> Uh, Dave, you was talking about the
history of of the Jokers. Your brother
and I played on the line together to win
those championships. I I do know
history. I do not allow that. Coach me.
You coach my grandson.
So there's no way I believe like and I'm
going to say Facebook is a dangerous
thing. It can work good and bad.
Accidents happen, but total
misinformation happened. And I'm totally
shocked that anyone would say that the
city is I'm sitting up here going to say
we going to take something away from the
kids. And I personally have the history
of the jokers with my coach sitting
there coaching my grandson playing with
your brother and hear the
misinformation. I'm shocked and it hurts
me because I do care about the Joker
handstand s. But I you know I am a joker
and I can say that cuz I played for him.
My son played for him. My daughters
cheered for him and I played some of my
best friends. Your brothers, the guys
that I played with in the Jokers cut my
hair and all that. We're still here at
Buzzville.
There's no way we would actually say
we're going to take that bill away. So,
believe it or not, Facebook is a
dangerous thing. Misinformation gets
started and it goes around and here we
have a problem. And that problem never
even existed that I know. And I made
phone calls to my council members and
said, "What the heck is going on?" And
everybody told me, "I don't know nothing
about that. I don't know nothing about
that."
>> Where'd it come from? So that so the
problem what I'm saying is just like an
accident happened with council car he
said that an accident things happened
from other side where misinformation
somebody could have said it and it just
started and it wrote I'm sure we was all
in school the teacher told us you know
I'm going to give you a word by the end
of that line that word was a damn
sentence
I'm sure we remember that and that's
what I believe goes on nobody's going to
hurt the kids

But the one thing I do know, I know that
we know where there are 200 and some
kids four or five days out of the week.
And that is crucial for keeping this
city
doing the right thing. And over my cold
dead hands will anything ever happen to
that field. Because we need that field
not to produce doctors, not to produce
lawyers, not to produce council people.
We need that field to produce good young
men who understand playing by the rules
get you where you need to go and those
rules apply to the tears and we need
that to keep this city moving forward
because if we don't have that this city
goes right down. So that joker field
come on. I think Abraham Lincoln said in
a speech he gave don't believe
everything you read on the internet.
Okay. We'll get it together. We're going
to get this together.

doing whatever I can in this capacity to
continue to support the Jokers and the
organization because of what it does. I
don't have to tell you what it does. You
know what it does and you're important.
So, but I also like the fact that the
Jokers are here when my oldest great
grandson comes from Williamstown to be
the uh, MVP.
Y'all don't remember that joke last
year.

when people in the community come up
here, well, in to the meetings to say
that we're against the children when
we're not against the children. I don't
think anyone up here will be against the
jokers organization that serves over 200
um children in our community. Um so like
council oglesby said that is
misinformation
and for one for me I wrote a letter and
gave it to Mr. royal in um for the
jokers to get additional funding and
help from creda to help you all with
that fieldhouse. And I believe
councilwoman Frell did the same thing.
So listen, I want you all to do your
homework. If you go on the city of
Pleasantville's website, you will see
all of our pictures there. You'll see
our email information and you also will
see our phone number. Oh, we about to
update that, I think.
